Indo Surf Trip

Summer of 2004. I flew to Bali to meet up with Jay Karpinski and Brendan Ryan. We linked up in Denpasar, and they rolled up to grab me on a motor scooter with a surf rack bolted to the side. Board strapped on, bag on my back, and we were off to a little boutique hotel on the Bukit Peninsula.

The daily loop

The days found a rhythm fast. Every morning we surfed the Bukit, starting at Balangan. Then over to Dreamland for lunch and another session. After that we’d eat and chill at Bobby and the Kids Warung, and when the afternoon came around we’d head to Uluwatu and surf Impossibles, Padang Padang, or Uluwatu itself, whatever was working.

Wake up, do it again.

G-Land

About three weeks in, I got word from friends from Florida who were living in Muriwai, New Zealand. They were coming to Indo to surf G-Land and wanted to know if I was in. Easy answer.

So I made the trip to Grajagan Bay and linked up with them. A bus to the bay, then a boat across to the surf camp at G-Land.

We stayed at Bobby’s camp and surfed a whole week on that incredible break. That’s where the beautiful waves in the video come from. The two guys with me were Chris Jackson and Jake, and we surfed our brains out. The waves were just incredible.

Back to Bali

When it was over, we took the bus all the way back to Bali. A few more days surfing the Bukit Peninsula, and that was the end of the trip.
